1944

AN IMPORTANT INDUSTRIAL COMPANY
IN THE REGION

An industrial region develops that is of crucial importance for the war effort

WELS REGION GAINS IN SIGNIFICANCE

The dispersal of operations and production that are important for the war benefits other areas as well as Wels, where Rotax-Werk AG is relocated. A number of important armaments producers and suppliers are concentrated in the Upper Danube region, including other locations such as St. Valentin and Steyr.

These include the aircraft repair facility in Wels, Epple-Buxbaum, the Triumph works in Wels and the Teufelberger wire cable plant in Wels, which together with Rotax create a strong regional economy.

The significance of the region grows and grows, and with it, so does the concentration of Allied air attacks. It cannot be assumed, especially in the last months of the war, that production processes and workflows will be well-structured. The destruction of the local station in December 1944 is a heavy blow and leads to frequent halts in production. Immediate danger of further bombardment means that employees are on constant alert.
