The Rotax training workshop, which has been in operation now for over 55 years, remains the preferred source of training for up and coming Rotax employees. Around 18 apprentices per year are trained in 7 disciplines and later become some of the most sought-after specialists in the Wels-Land district. This dedication was recognized in 2013, with Rotax being awarded the State Prize for the best training program in Austria. Today apprentices of all ages and both genders train at Rotax. The Rotax specialists of the future travel distances of up to 70 kilometers to train with the company. No-one is “too old” – the oldest apprentice so far was 48! The young people are encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial spirit. Siegfried Lehner, former Head of the Rotax training workshop and himself one of Rotax’ first apprentices, remembers: “In 2013, we were the best training program in Austria. Friendship is at the top of the hierarchy of needs for young people. And we took this into account at the training workshop. People don’t learn from metal, they learn from friendship. The best way for apprentices to learn is from each other”.

THREE-PRONGED TRAINING AND MENTORING PROGRAM
Modern teaching methods have been introduced to apprentice training as well. A three-pronged training program that triangulates between apprentices, trainers and parents provides regular feedback to ensure long-term success. A specialized mentoring program also strengthens team spirit, with experienced apprentices helping rookies get their bearings and take their first steps into the wide world of Rotax.
